Why We Love It...

We’ve happily sipped on Luna’s Prosecco since last spring, and 2024 finds us completely unable to slow down our incessant sipping! If ever there was a bubbly to stock up on, to have one in the fridge at all times, to bring to every dinner party, and every celebration – THIS is that wine.

But first, a quick refresher…Luna was the Napa winery that helped launch the career of John Kongsgaard, and many other notable Napa names. They fought the good fight in popularizing Italian varieties in California for years. Now, things have come full circle, with this fantastic Prosecco raised, reared, and rendered in the heart of Veneto!

Luna may have closed its brick-and-mortar Napa winery back in 2020, but the wine never stopped flowing! With new, spectacular releases that run the gamut of Italian pinot grigio, Tuscan sangiovese, and this delightful Prosecco from Veneto – we’re simply thrilled to see where Luna goes next. These bubbles are jamming – 93 points for a Prosecco that we can offer at just $13 – I mean, c’mon!

I know we’re all proudly identifying as bubble monsters, but surely you’ve heard of a little Italian wine named Sassacaia (you know, the first Italian wine to get 100 points from Robert Parker, and widely considered one of the greatest wines in Italy today)? Well, allow me to introduce Graziana Grassini. She’s the revered oenologist at Sassicaia, plus a whole slew of other top brands…and…wait for it…she also makes this bubbly! If it seems too good to be true, we get it, truly. So we triple-checked and then checked again. She made this. Period. Sustainably farmed glera grapes, with no spraying of pesticides, and they even use frogs...yes, frogs for pest control in the vineyard (that’s a new one for us too)!

The wine, you ask? Beautiful bubbles, a thick and stable mousse that bursts and rolls in the glass – with every last bubble delivering aromas of honeysuckle, jasmine, peonies, alyssum...like some ambrosial perfume of some ancient deity. And then…an explosion of fruits – green apple, apricot, tangerine, golden plums, crisp pears...oh my! A finishing touch of heavy cream, and honeyed almonds – plus the gentlest kiss of sweetness that is never cloying or forthcoming…just, perfect. Graziana opted for a drier-than-average style of Prosecco – one with a Brut dosage level (and nearly Extra Brut) that would more closely match the dryness of top-flight Champagne (right around 8 g/l as opposed to more typical Prosecco levels that hover between 10 and 14 g/l). This is as dry as a Prosecco as you'll find, with all the rich, fruity, floral character, and none of the sticky, gooey sweetness that leaves you hating life the morning after. For the immaculate price of only $13?!? House bubbles worthy, for sure! This is a Luna deal for the ages…and simply the perfect opportunity to build out your stores for the 2024 Bubbly Season!

About the Producer

When Luna's founders first laid eyes on the Luna property in 1995, they instantly recognized the magic and the amazing potential of its estate vineyard, perfectly located along the Silverado Trail. They bought the property and followed their dream, building a winery that paid tribute to the varietals that set Napa Valley apart.
Luna's original founders brought tradition engrained by Italian ancestors, to embrace local processes that would sustain a deep and abiding respect for the Napa region. They were the first family-owned winery to plant the visionary Italian varietal of Pinot Grigio on the estate vineyard, on the eastern hillside of the Silverado Trail.
Since then, Luna has expanded, making wines from our own vines in the Napa Valley and sourcing from some of the greatest winemakers in Tuscany.
