Why We Love It...
Domaine Mosny’s family vineyards originated in the 1920s by Ernest Mosny – who also helped to found the Montlouis AOC in 1938. Today, the appellation is made of just 385 hectares where about 40 wineries call home, producing almost exclusively white wines in a variety of styles, from sparkling to dry to semi-dry to sweet. This estate is made up of just 14 hectares of land in the village of Saint-Martin-le-Beau, passed down five generations until today, when Thierry Mosny and his son Thomas run the ship under Thierry’s father Daniel’s watchful eye. With their land holdings, sales, and winemaking expertise ever-expanding over the decades, the estate has also committed to the transition to certified organic viticulture to both preserve the nature surrounding them and to allow the grapes to express themselves in their most natural state.
The 100% chenin blanc sparkling wine is pulled from select, top vineyards in the Montlouis-sur-Loire AOC, such as Saint-Martin-le-Beau and the Les Sablons vineyards, which are south-southwest oriented and sit upon silty, sandy soils with degraded clay, lending the wine a fresh, naturally acidic finish. Made in the methode champenoise, the wine undergoes primary fermentation in thermo-regulated stainless steel for accentuated vibrancy, with no malolactic fermentation, followed by aging on the lees for 24 months and a Brut dosage of 9 g/L to bring out all the round, fruit-forward characters.
Prestance means “presence” in English – and you’ll find yourself drawn to living, breathing, and sipping in the current moment as you imbibe this beautifully rich bubbly… no worries about yesterday, tomorrow, or a year from now when you have something as delightful as this in your glass! With a nose of golden plums, marzipan, and orange cream, this is an opulent wine that dances on the palate with expressive honeysuckle, umeboshi, saltwater taffy, white sage, dried mint, and a gravelly-mineral finish, with a tightwire of citrusy acidity to tie it all together and balance out the more succulent sensations. Just a gorgeous, refreshing, interesting, and complex wine – perfect to pair with many a meal, including lighter fare like salads and heftier plates of spicy Thai or smoky BBQ. For under $20, it doesn’t get much better than this! I’d go for at least a 6-pack – maybe even a case – as this is certain to be a contender for your newest daily bubbles needs!
