Why We Love It...

This is an oldie, but goodie. Oldie because Chateau Lauduc was founded some time ago – the 19th century, to be exact – and goodie because this wine is delectable in every sense of the word. I drink a ton of sparkling, as you all know, but not nearly enough Cremant de Bordeaux. That needs to change. Chateau Lauduc is the producer helping to change that for me, and it’ll make you crave more delectable Bordeaux bubbly too.

Château Lauduc, a family-owned and operated estate in the Entre-Deux-Mers region of Bordeaux, run by the Grandeau family since 1923. The estate is rather expansive, covering about 115 hectares, with both noble red and white Bordeaux varieties represented and planted. They’ve been recognized for their sustainability efforts and have a High Environmental Value (HVE) certification, one of the most rigorous certifications in the industry.

As usually is the case, Chateau Lauduc is a still wine producer predominantly, but their sparkling wines have garnered acclaim of late. The Grandeau family combines modern tech with traditional winemaking to make wines that consistently appeal to legions and generations of consumers – and this dazzling bubbly absolutely impresses!

As a refresher course, Cremant de Bordeaux is a traditional method sparkling wine made in Bordeaux, from Bordeaux varieties (including whites like sauvignon blanc and semillon.) It is one of the eight regions in France allowed to use the Cremant designation, where a secondary fermentation occurs in the bottle – just like Champagne – and the aging requirements are only slightly less strict than that of Champagne’s laws. Cremant de Bordeaux is a lesser-known and talked about Cremant, but one that is worth your attention when you find them – and we’re thrilled to have found one as remarkable as this. Rare to find outside of Europe, but we all loved this so much that we managed to figure out how to get some here for you.

This rosé bubbly is based entirely on the cabernet franc grape…something rarely used for sparkling wine. Wildly delicious and loaded with pome and berry fruit aromatics and flavors that spill out of the glass. There’s this tart and exotic blood orange note, plus some grassy, alpine herbs, and a spicy minerality that really adds to the complexity. The mousse is fine and it’s both linear and round – my personal favorite combo. I can’t wait for you to try it. I want to drink it morning, noon, and night, and at our amazing price of just $21, that’s entirely possible! Cin, cin!
