Why We Love It...

Here’s a fun fact about the Dechelle family: they have been around for centuries and literally saved Champagne. After the phylloxera blight of the 1880s, their expertise in growing and grafting vines proved extremely useful for replantation of vines in the area! For this reason, they are one of the most well-known and respected families in all of Champagne, even though they aren’t as known here in the States. They only recently decided to try their hand at making wines instead of just growing the grapes for them, and the results have been masterful.

Champagne Philippe Dechelle farms their 9 hectares in the gorgeous Vallée de la Marne using organic methods, and all their efforts are proudly displayed via the uber-happy grapes pumping some serious intensity into their cuvées. Cuvée Terrienne is one of six cuvées that Philippe Dechelle makes – just about equal parts chardonnay, pinot noir, and pinot meunier. Rich and dreamy like Gatsby, but with a zesty, laser-focused edge that will delight any of our most serious bubbly drinkers out there. The flavors burst out the glass with the essence of white truffles, followed by this crunchy chalk and slate experience, then Fuyu persimmons, toasted almonds, and percolating red fruit notes – cherries, pomegranates, plums, and tart cranberries…absolutely stunning! Three years aging gives this a nice roundness, but Champagne’s unmatched, terroir-driven acidity keeps it dry and tantalizingly fresh.

We’re always on the lookout for great new Champagne – especially as the prices around the world have crept up steadily over the past few years – and we were thrilled to have this one come onto our radar! Under $35 for quality Champagne such as this is a rare feat – and this is most certainly some dream-worthy deliciousness that I’ll be sipping on for months to come! Don’t hesitate to load up here – I’ve no doubt you’ll soon realize you should’ve gone for even more!
