Why We Love It...

Forest-Marié is consistently a value-driven Champagne and one of my all-time favorite producers. The young son of Thierry and Gracianne, Louis Forest, launched this new project, a Premier Cru Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut made from pinot meunier and pinot noir vineyards in Gracianne’s hometown of Écueil. Tiny, artisanal, family-run Champagne grower-producers will forever have our hearts…and this is simply one of the best!

Located in the northern stretches of the Montagne de Reims, Écueil is a Premier Cru village where Louis Forest owns twelve plots, handed down from his parents, based mostly in two lieu dits. “Les Blanches Vignes” is a sandy vineyard planted with pinot noir back in 1970, and “Les Pins Blancs” is a loamy pinot meunier vineyard whose grapes were planted in 2006. His newest project, a Premier Cru Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut, is made up of an even split of the two grape varieties, culminating in a graceful power and expressive palate! Nearly 50% off this fine, limited-production Champagne makes it one to take notice of and stock up on ASAP!

Hailing predominantly from the 2016 vintage – with some house reserve wine from past vintages to amp up the depth and complexities – this extra brut Champagne is 50% pinot meunier, vinified in stainless steel and 10% acacia barrels, and the other 50% pinot noir, vinified in neutral Burgundy oak and new Cognac barrels. It develops for more than 4.5 years on the lees prior to disgorgement and a perfectly judged final dosage of 3 g/L.

Out of the bottle, the wine pours a dreamy pale golden color with a sturdy and creamy mousse that holds up impressively. The aromas are fine, tiptoeing gracefully with warm brioche, caramel-y nougat, and whiffs of lemon zest that are amplified by notes of baked apple. Roasted almond and scrumptious cherries jubilee dance through the palate, along with more apple pie incarnations, a bit of preserved lemon, and faint spurts of honeyed dates. Ultimately, an ever so rich and expressive Champagne, with plenty of power and heft amplified by a prominent wave of acidity. Quite the exciting new chapter for the Forests and just an all-around scrumptious wine to behold! Sadly, only 215 cases of this cuvee were made, and we only have a handful of those remaining! This Last Bubbles Exclusive is the only home to these fine Champagnes in the entire USA – so for nearly 50% off retail and shipping on the house for 3+ bottles, I’d humbly suggest you make some of this yours!
