Why We Love It...

Impossibly delicious, simply top-notch quality for value Champagne…can one truly ever have too much? I’d venture to say no… and this bottling from the revered Bernard Remy estate just checks all the boxes. With fruit sources ranging across both Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs, this will surprise you with its creamy, luxurious mouthfeel, and crisp, clean flavor profile.

Only a couple miles from the hustle and bustle of Reims and Epernay, in the village of Allemant, Bernard Remy created his eponymous estate just over 50 years ago. He started with a single hectare in Allemant, of the Côte des Blancs, and began producing his own wines to sell a few years later. Then, in 1983, he made the huge leap to construct his own cellar and production facility – gaining the autonomy he so greatly desired from the very beginning. In 1986, he added on three more hectares, which then required he remodel his now overly stuffed cellar. He continued to acquire parcels, and as such, continued to expand his cellar to contain his growing production over the years…finally in 2008, after one final expansion of the cellar… Bernard had enough – passing the reins to his son, Rudy. Rudy continued to grow the holdings in small, but important ways, acquiring some top parcels in Le Mesnil, and others in the Montagne de Reims. Today, the estate stands at 11 hectares of their own fruit, augmented by relationships with a handful of other growers across Champagne.

This Grande Réserve Brut is based on 65% chardonnay (with the rest pinot noir and pinot meunière) island spends over two years on the lees before disgorgement. The golden-hued juice hits the glass with impressive weight immediately evident. A stable and creamy mousse reveals an intense salivary-gland pumping crispness and cool, clean toastiness, where flavors of ginger and lemon curd rule the day. In the mouth, get all this and more, with pink lady apples, roasted chestnuts, a whiff of vanilla, and crunchy, uplifting minerality. It’s harmonious and delectable, and let’s be honest…almost too easy to drink! This is a wine that is worth the retail, but when we can sling it your way for under $30…you’d best get a move on! Trust me, you’ll want this on hand at least until Spring. Summer. Next December? This is one where you simply cannot have too much.
