Why We Love It...
As Champagne’s oldest house dating back to 1584, every bottle of Gosset is filled with secrets and history. The estate’s home base is Aÿ, near the town of Épernay in the Vallée de la Marne, where the Gosset family held court for years as public figures intent on protecting their terroir. They reigned over almost exclusively Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards in the Côte des Blancs, Vallée de la Marne, and the Montagne de Reims. In 1993, Gosset sold to the Renaud-Cointreau family of Cognac Frapin after searching for a new parent company that would be just as adamant about land stewardship and the upholding quality as Gosset had been.
Renaud-Cointreau insisted on continuing the old style of winemaking that was prevalent in the village of Aÿ. Simultaneously, the Gossets and Renaud-Cointreau family understood that new technologies can enhance their already-stellar wine while making processes more efficient, so in 2009, they acquired a property in Epernay that, essentially, expands their cellar and production facilities. The commitment to quality has shone through the transition to new ownership, with our offer today showcasing one of the very top Rosé Champagnes you can get anywhere in the world.
Blended of half Chardonnay and half Pinot Noir – with 8% still Pinot Noir to generate that brilliant pink salmon tone – this jaw-dropping presentation has a base of 2016 with 8% reserve wines. Four years aging on the lees culminated with disgorgement in 2022, and a Brut dosage of 8 grams per liter for a weighty and full-fruited, yet refined flavor profile. No malolactic fermentation allows this to demonstrate its utter ripeness, freshness, and minerality, and gives it plenty of life to age at least another 10 years in bottle (if you can make it that long!).
The glass opens with crunchy nectarine, Rainier cherry, and cantaloupe melon aromas, while the palate continues a mix of pitted fruits alongside white strawberries, orange blossoms, a smooth whipped cream element, and salty toasted hazelnuts. Soft bubbles and a zippy acidity give this a lifted effect that absolutely stuns, ending with a lengthy and dry salinity on the finish. This is a proper adventure that will delight anyone who partakes in it, until the very last drop in the bottle. Why not treat yourself this Valentine’s Day?
