Why We Love It...

If you’re looking for exceptional pinot noir-based Champagnes – Bouzy is your destination. The powerful, vinous, and weighty wines hailing from this region tend to go alongside a great many meals just swimmingly, which makes them a top choice anytime we’re looking to entertain…or, heck, just to open up something grand to go with a delicious home-cooked meal on a Friday night. This Blanc de Noirs from the Brice family is one such exemplary rendition of rich, layered Champagne that will thoroughly please anyone lucky enough to imbibe its precious bubbles.

Talk about family history: Brothers Remi and Jean-René Brice come from 12 generations of grape growers out of Bouzy, which sits along the eastern limits of Champagne, going all the way back to the 17th century. They own 12 hectares of vineyards, including 8 that are Grand Cru plots located within Bouzy. The family’s original grape growers focused primarily on crafting red wines but shifted their vision to Champagne shortly after World War II. They take a stern approach to winemaking, earnestly working to represent the true terroir of the four villages in which they grow grapes: Ay, Cramant, Verzenay, and of course, Bouzy.

It seems that each generation has reclaimed a commitment to the lands, cellar, and quality of the cuvées in production – strengthening the foundation that has made Champagne Brice into one of the greatest small-production houses in Bouzy today. With the recent transition to organic farming, the vineyards have never been more rich and healthy. This 100% pinot noir Champagne was sourced from two of their best Bouzy plots, Le Poteau and Le Mont de Tours. The wine is vinified in a combination of stainless steel and 228-liter barrels, skipping malolactic fermentation and remaining unfiltered as it moves to bottles for four years to age on the lees. To finish, 20% reserve wine is added to the base to increase the depth of flavor, before a final extra brut dosage of 4 grams/liter.

The generous and dreamy aromas of red strawberries, crushed raspberries, and baked golden plum leap from the glass, followed by a lively and blanched palate with additional notes of toasted brioche, ruby red grapefruits, raw vanilla bean, and saltwater taffy. The finish comes in silky and delicate, yet vibrant – slipping away cleanly and leaving the mouth ready and refreshed for another sip. This is a gorgeous bottle, with just tons going on, that could easily go for twice the price, but we’re thrilled to offer it at the best price in the USA!
