Why We Love It...

We’ve offered some of this before, and they got scooped up faster than Zach Bryan tickets sell out. Champagne Bonnet-Gilmert has been farming chardonnay on their pristine 7-hectare plot in Oger for five generations, but they source the rest of their fruit from some of the top plots in the Côte des Blancs, perhaps the greatest place on earth to grow fine chardonnay. Nearly 50% off, this 96-point Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs is made of reserve wines from the Le-Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, and Avize, and does it ever deliver!

Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs of this caliber and pedigree for under $45 doesn’t really exist. I’m not the one to boast, but I really did score you guys one heck of a deal here. The La Reserve is based entirely on chardonnay, comprised of mostly Champagne Bonnet-Gilmert’s top lots of estate fruit from Oger, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, plus complementary lots from their neighbors’ esteemed parcels in other nearby Grand Cru villages of Avize and Le Mesnil.

Aude Vauban is the fifth generation to run the estate, alongside her cousin, Carla Bonnet – each working together to skillfully source and blend fruit from these prime villages, enhancing the final depth and complexity of every cuvée they craft.

The wine’s straw yellow hue with golden highlights are met by aromas of delicate flowers, white-fleshed fruit, and vibrant citrus. It’s zesty and zippy on the palate, with tangerines, lemon balm, golden apples, spiced pears, and dried herbs with a wild mushroom savory element that is mind-bogglingly good. It’s sharp and bright on the finish, with an expansive mouthfeel and a tingly tickle that goes on and on – this is some seriously delicious stuff with a price-to-quality ratio that’s hard to beat.

My humblest advice? Grab four before these are gone forever…which also gets you free shipping! We scored a deal on this one, but in truth, dear Bubbles Monsters, we don’t have nearly as much as we would like. Pocket these while you can, and you’ll thank me later!

About the Producer

Champagne Bonnet-Gilmert began in the 1950's by Colette Gilmert and Robert Bonnet.  Their focus was working the vineyard sustainably and to strive to make exceptional wines from their fruit.  Today the house is ran by their son Denis and his daughters.  Outside of their Rosé de Saignée, all of the wines they produce are Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs.
