Why We Love It...

“It’s always nice to have something like this in the cellar to pull when you just need to collapse at the end of a long workday and zone out,” said Decanter in their 92-point review, and we’re in complete agreement! At only $18, the wine is as decadent and layered as many sparkling wines going for at least double the price. This comes from a winemaking cooperative stronghold in Bennwihr, Alsace, that continues to impress, and we’re seriously smitten.

United by courage and boldness, more than 300 winegrowing families across 71 Alsatian villages contribute to the Bestheim cooperative today – a group that calls themselves Moon Chasers and is revered for their historic commitment to the land and traditions passed down from generation to generation. This gorgeous Brut Rosé is sourced from some of the group’s top Pinot Noir plots, expressing the generosity and minerality of the area’s signature clay-limestone terroirs. A year of aging on the lees, along with a thoughtful Brut dosage, gives the wine some weight and a fuller, silkier, lusher body without ever crossing the line into sweet.

Bestheim first began as the Cave Coopérative de Bennwihr, founded in Bennwihr, Alsace, by 32 local winemakers in 1946 after World War II. The village had been badly damaged during the war, but still, these resourceful individuals were determined to rebuild their community by uniting their holdings and selling wine collectively. It was their spirit of solidarity and devotion that became the cornerstone of Bestheim’s identity. In 1997, the coop merged with the Cave de Westhalten, which initiated the creation of the Bestheim brand, later joined by the Cave d’Obernai in 2012 and the Cave de Kientzheim-Kayserberg in 2015.

The jewel pink-toned glass carries flavors of those strawberry candies with gooey middles that your grandma always had in a bowl on her accent table, mixed with maraschino cherries, orange peel, cherry blossoms, juicy red plum, wet slate, and a slightly flinty note that gives depth to a wine that is mostly fresh, fruity, and so irresistibly fun. This is an incredible value – it even took home the Gold Medal at the 2024 National Crémant Competition – from a group who has grown into the preeminent wine and crémant producer in all of Alsace! Make at least a handful of these yours to satisfy any and all daily bubbles desires!
