Why We Love It...

From a house with a lasting legacy, this signature Champagne from the Chaudron family expertly marries the three dominant grape varieties and imparts a luxurious sipping experience that could easily fool anyone into thinking the bottle costs 3x our price. For under $40, we’re thrilled to be the only retailer in the U.S. to have this small family producer’s Grande Reserve cuvée!

Since 1867, the Chaudron family has produced pure, artisanal Champagnes from their homebase in the Montagne de Reims. Today, 7th generation vigneron Luc Chaudron carries on his family legacy of producing refined Champagnes from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier with loads of character and uniqueness to express the terroir. One of Luc’s ancestors, Hélène (whom one of the cuvées is named after), actually lived to 102 years old and claimed that Champagne was the secret to her vitality. We’re in no part here to give medical advice, but that’s one belief we can absolutely get behind!

This Grande Reserve is built of nearly equal parts of the three noble varieties: 36% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Meunier, and 29% Pinot Noir. It’s the house’s signature cuvée, made with 3-year-old Solera, pulling 25-30% reserve wines from previous years that add a considerable softness and richness of character to the profile. The base wines age in oak barrels for 10 to 12 months, allowing a subtle power to build for a final product that’s all at once smooth yet lively.

The nose opens with luscious aromatics of flaky saltine crackers, quince paste, apple blossoms, and a melty vanilla sensation. Where the aromas brim on more warming fall notes, the palate brings in vibrant spring sensations, with tart lemon and sweet, fleshy komquat, and a salty sea spray expression that tingles the tongue. The texture is all-around silky, with soft bubbles and a luxurious and lasting finish. For under $40 and the only spot to have this in the whole country, this is an absolute delight that you must try!
