Why We Love It...
This might be a new cuvee to you, but for me, I’ve known about these guys for quite some time, and I’ve wanted to bring them to you for a while. Today is that day. If you want a taste of Santa Barbara County in a glass, this is one wine you should definitely try.
Summerland Winery is named after the seaside town of Summerland, in Santa Barbara County. They’ve been making quite a name for themselves as they were voted “the best winery in Santa Barbara County” by the local readers of the Santa Barbara Independent. An honor like that doesn’t come easily – Santa Barbara is full of spectacular wineries, and an important region in the world of wine – so this is one you should pay attention to.
Most of the vineyard sources for Summerland’s wines come from the famously revered Santa Rita Hills, but they also source from the Santa Ynez Valley and Paso Robles, too. This Blanc de Blanc is North Coast appellated, so it’s sourced from many great vineyards in the northern part of California.
This Blanc de Blanc is made in the traditional Champagne method, and each bottle is hand riddled for extra special care. You can expect crisp, green apples and some tangy citrus fruits on both the palate and the nose. Think lemons, limes, white grapefruit, oranges with the searing Champagne-like acidity and some mineral character that truly ups the ante on this wine. At $19, the quality far exceeds the price. This is a great entry point for Santa Barbara wine, for Central Coast wine, for an introduction to sparkling and for a satisfying and refreshing sparkler. Whatever you fancy, this Summerland Blanc de Blanc is the perfect choice.
