Why We Love It...

Just like all those comic book movies – we too, have an origin story. It begins with Marta Magnabosco, at the glorious Ca’erto estate (known as Montetodo in Italy) just over two years ago. She wrapped up our tasting with a pour of glorious frizzante and announced “We have sadly reached the last bubbles.” Mere minutes later, we had secured the domain, and registered the name Last Bubbles with our very sleepy and disoriented attorney back in the States. A few months after that… we were off, and the rest, as they say, is history. Today, we’re taking a trip via wine glass back to where it all began, with a newer bottling of that same frizzante rosato, from the very same Magnabosco family!

The Magnabosco family is prized for making some of the best Soave Classico in the world, but they’ve been making a fair bit of Italian “spumante” wines that simply defy any cost for quality computations or algorithms. The rolling hills of Veneto are their domain, and you’ll be hard pressed to find a nicer, funnier, or more gracious family in all of Italy (and that’s saying something)!

This is 100% corvina – from a 12 hectare, dry-farmed, organic plot in the Magnabosco family’s holdings in Veneto that sits on nutrient poor, stress-inducing, volcanic soils at an elevation of some 450 meters above sea level. The corvina grape is rarely seen as a rosé, especially a bubbly one, and you are far more likely to encounter it as the base of a heady Amarone, or other Valpolicella red. I’m not complaining, though, this is delightful! Soft and delicate, with a deep core of fruit reserves, bursting with aromas of cherries and strawberries that follow onto the palate, then additional accents of graphite, fresh cream, shaved almonds, candied grapefruits, and a kiss of raspberry and honey sweetness. The fizz is just rambunctious enough to distribute the flavors across the entire palate, and the finish is carried by a bright and linear acidity that cleanses between sips. It is just so much fun to drink – and simply an exceptional value for the Under $15 category! The Magnabosco family amazes yet again, now we just need to be back in Veneto with the Magnabosco family to make it all complete!

About the Producer

The Magnabosco family is the driving force behind Monte Tondo Winery, a family-owned and operated business located in the Soave Classico region of Italy. The family has been involved in winemaking for generations, with their expertise passed down from father to son. In the 1950s, Carlo Castellani married into the Magnabosco family, and they began producing wine together under the Monte Tondo label. Today, the third generation of the Magnabosco family runs the winery, with Andrea Magnabosco serving as the winemaker and his sister, Martina, managing the administrative and marketing side of the business. The family is dedicated to preserving the tradition and heritage of their region while embracing innovation and sustainability in their winemaking practices.
