Why We Love It...
Just a few miles southwest of Colmar is the village of Wettolsheim. Considered the birthplace of Alsatian wine, and now centuries later, still acknowledged as one of the most important wine villages of Alsace. Since 1793, the Mann family has grown grapes in their vineyards – with this elegant offering serving as the bridge between Alsace’s native grapes and the winemaking tradition of Champagne. A roughly equal parts blend of pinot blanc, pinot auxerrois and pinot gris – all reared amongst the clay and limestone soils of the Vosges mountains in eastern France.
The wine pours out a flaxen gold, with a delicate and full mousse. Immediate sensations of star jasmine and iceberg roses leap forward, followed by honeyed golden plums, baked green apples, Rainier cherries, and cinnamon toast. The body is light, but creamy, with a tangy, salted plum finish. Crisp and dry throughout, this is what I would describe as dangerously quaffable – you have been warned. I finished my glass without realizing it, and in record time to boot! At the amazing price of only $16, this is a classy and sassy, all-the-time sipper that you’ll immediately wish you bought more of… don’t miss out on this!
