Unlike many larger houses, Taittinger remains family-owned, allowing for a carrying thread of long-term vision and consistency in style throughout the years. The house is renowned for its high proportion of Chardonnay in its blends, imparting a signature delicacy, freshness, and refined structure in every one of its wines. Taittinger also owns one of the largest vineyard holdings in Champagne, including many prized parcels in Grand Cru villages. Their historic cellars, carved from Gallo-Roman chalk quarries beneath Reims, provide ideal aging conditions that contribute to the complexity and purity of their wines.

This 100% Chardonnay, crafted exclusively from all five Grand Crus of the Côte des Blancs – Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Oger, and Mesnil-sur-Oger – won 97 points from James Suckling and 95 from Decanter, who notes it “Much better than I dared hope.” The 2011 vintage had some curveballs but ultimately resulted in expressive yet delicate style wines for many of Champagne’s upscale houses, with Chardonnay reigning superior for the vintage. While the spring was unusually warm and dry, the summer turned cool and wet with late summer heat spikes in August. Taittinger ultimately fared well and managed to craft a noteworthy, outstandingly rich and powerful cuvée that has recently entered its prime window.

The wine reflects both the purity of the varietal and the delicacy of the terroir, boasting exceptional freshness, vibrant acidity, and remarkable aging potential. Notes of Granny Smith apple and fleshy apricot followed by fresh-baked croissants arrive on the nose, and a pure, salty sea spray nature accompanies the wine in both aroma and flavor profile. The mouthfeel expands with lemon peel, baked apple, orange blossom, lemon curd, and accents of fennel and fresh ginger, all culminating in a finish that reveals smoky charred earth, crumbled chalk, and grapefruit pith. The wine dances on the tongue for minutes after each sip, and lingers in the brain for far longer. A triumph, no question, and every bit worthy of its reputation!

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0796/1211/7307/files/Fizz_Fest_Champagne_Taittinger_Grand_Crus_Blanc_de_Blancs_Comtes_de_Champagne_Brut_2011_1007201_BUB_BottleShot.jpg?v=1790375463
https://lastbubbles.com/products/champagne-taittinger-grand-crus-blanc-de-blancs-comtes-de-champagne-brut-2011
