Why We Love It...
We made a deal to score a marvelous expression of this fabled wine – and the deal was contingent on us keeping our big mouths shut about the details… but you can surely follow the clues, can’t you? And save HUGE in the process? This tête de cuvée house was first established in 1734 under the name Forneaux Forest, but has been known by the marquee name we all know since 1932. The wine has a strong signature style of richness, bold minerality, and taut precision. There’s Granny Smith apples followed by freshly baked pastries. There’s a purity and almost crystalline nature that accompanies this wine — in both aroma and flavor profile – that make it feel and taste like a delicacy. The mouthfeel expands with orange and lemon citrus zest, clementines, spice poached pears, and accents of nutmeg, croissants straight from the ovens, all culminating in a finish that reveals elements of smoked hay, crumbled chalk, struck flint, fragrant green peppercorns. The wine stays on the tongue for minutes after each sip, and lingers in the brain for far, far longer. A triumph, without question, and worthy of its reputation.
Here’s a fun fact for you: James Bond is best known for his affinity for martinis, shaken, not stirred, in the movies, but in the books, his taste is a bit more refined, opting for this tête de cuvée. Truthfully, we would opt for this too, over any martini or cocktail – any day! Because we know your tastes so well, we know you’ll love this 100% chardonnay, crafted exclusively from all five Grand Crus of the Côte des Blancs – Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Oger, and Mesnil-sur-Oger. Yes, essentially the Rolls Royce – the Bentley – of Champagne fruit. And it tastes like a Maserati Ghibli with a Pininfarina interior. Yes, it’s THAT good. James Suckling bestowed a near perfect 99 point score, Antonio Galloni of Vinous, and Wine Enthusiast all gave this wine a 98, and lastly Wine Spectator and The Wine Advocate gave it an incredibly solid 96.
The 2013 vintage might go down in the annals of Champagne vintage history as one of the best. The growing season was challenging, but the wine prevailed masterfully in the end. And as it turns out, chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs fared best during the vintage. So today’s your lucky day! Any guesses on what this could be? I know you super-sleuths can nail this down – and save yourself from paying almost double at retail! One of the fanciest and greatest Champagnes of all time is yours for the taking – and I know you can’t wait to buy this mystery offer!
