Why We Love It...

For the money…this is simply one of the most pleasure-inducing Champagnes in my repertoire. It’s layered, fruity, spicy, floral and just perfectly walking the line between opulence and precision. To find all that in a Champagne just a whisker over $30 is rare, but that’s exactly why we can never seem to keep these in stock!

If you’ve jumped at any of our earlier offers of Antoine Derigny, you know why we’re tickled pink to have them back. Why these bottles don’t cost twice as much is one of the more delightful mysteries in life. (Sure, that we direct import the wines straight from Champagne ourselves certainly helps, but still…) This absolutely titillating bottle of bubbly goodness is crafted by the Bernard Remy Champagne estate, with Bernard’s son, Rudy, steering the course of these wines since 2008. The estate is located in the village of Allemant on the Cóte des Blancs, not far from the big and bustling cities of Reims and Epernay. With 11 hectares of vines throughout Montagne de Reims (including a bulk of the holdings falling in the Cóte des Blancs best sites, like Le Mesnil-Sur-Oger and more), Rudy thoughtfully composes his blends by weaving the flavors, textures, and aromatic complexities of prime lots of pinot noir, chardonnay, and pinot meunier into this brilliant bubbly.

A prolonged maturation over 3 years on the lees takes this blend of 60% pinot noir, 35% chardonnay, and 5% pinot meunier to staggering new heights, while a perfectly calibrated dosage of 8 grams per liter gives this amplitude and attitude a plenty. Initial aromas of limes, lemon cream, and fresh-out-the-oven butter cookies pull you into the glass, where you’re happily greeted with a hypnotic dance of ripe plums, and rich marzipan flavors, followed by notes of Bartlett pears, bright sushi ginger, cooling spearmint, and spicy orange oil. It’s one pleasing mouthful of incredible Champagne, and I’ll say again – just a stunning value that deserves consideration for the House Champagne champion of 2024 (and beyond!).

About the Producer

After working from 1996 under his father his son Rudy took over in 2008 and has since expanded the business. Initially very small, with just a few vines of his own, the family business expanded at a steady clip. It is now comprised of 11 hectares in various locations which includes some highly reputed vineyards in the Grands Crus area of Mesnil-sur-Oger and in the Montagne de Reims area. They grow Chardonnay in the Cóte de Blancs and the Cóte de Sézannais, Pinot Noir in the Aube area and Meunier in the Vallée de Marne.  The wines are produced in collaboration with Bernard Remy.
