Supernova Rosé Brut 2023

With a name like Supernova, you might anticipate an explosion of power and brightness, and that’s exactly what this wine delivers! Winemaker Weston Eidson made a name for himself with his Napa Valley-based Silver Ghost Cellars and Montagu wines, having trained under Jason Moore (of Modus Operandi) and Russell Bevan (you know the guy) to learn the ropes for crafting top-notch Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon in his early industry years. Yet, bubbles remained top of mind and heart for Weston from early on in his career – so, finally, just a few years ago, he blasted through the next level of his profession with the creation of Supernova!

Weston pulls the majority of the fruit for this wine from the upper stretches of Manchester Ridge, a coastal mountain vineyard in the Mendocino Ridge AVA. At 2,000 feet above Anderson Valley and the Pacific Ocean, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines rest above the daily coastal fog line while appreciating the many benefits of the cool, Pacific climate and also experiencing the summer’s beating sunshine, helping to create vibrant, fruit-forward grapes. The cepage for the ‘23 vintage is 61% Chardonnay, 31% Pinot Noir, 3% Pinot Meunier and 3% still Pinot Noir added for color. The power and finesse of Pinot with the crisp, ripping acid backbone of the Chardonnay, with a little dash of the exotic Pinot Meunier that is so rarely seen here in California – it makes for one compelling little ditty that the folks at Wine Enthusiast called “super fun and crushable.” We here at Last Bubbles couldn’t agree more – which is precisely why we made a deal to grab every last bottle available!  

Full of aromas of ripe strawberries, peaches, orange blossoms, and toasty, hearty Wheat Thins – this is a summer soiree in a glass!
